electromagnetic velcro
When you apply electricity to a coil, it becomes magnet and gets attracted to a magnet, and when you remove the electricity, it does not get attracted… Theoretically. My idea was to make a velcro like connector, of which close/open state can be controlled by electricity. I made 3 material experiments, stainless steel thread, copper […]
Corset Breathing Sensor
This corset sensor was made for a performance of the Helix by Michela Pelusio It uses eeonyx stretch fabric as stretch sensor to detect the movement of one’s stomach when breathing in. On this corset, there are 3 strips to take different part of the stomach. This is due to the fit of the corset, […]
Engineers for Social Impact workshop at Mumbai : e-Diwali
I was lucky to be a part of Engineers for Social Impact workshop by NYUAD Engineering department this March. The scope of the workshop is to visit local communities and see how the skills of engineering could contribute to the community. Group of engineering students were assigned to different assignments, and I was a part […]
Heating with Eeonyx Test
Some samples from Eeonyx material are made for heating purposes. I made a quick test on using them with thermochromic ink. The materials I test are NW170-PI-20 and Twill PI 20. The electrical connection is made with KarlGrim thread with machine sewing on the side.
glovephone
Glovephone is a fabric speaker on a big membrane with sleeve attached to it. To listen to sound, you need to stick your arm into the sleeve and let your palm close to your ear next to the speaker coils. This project is made during the E-Textile Pressure Cooker at STEIM in collaboration with Giacomo […]
Sheath Bend Sensor
A textile bend sensor constructed by sewing two parallel sheaths. Two separate pieces of conductive thread are housed inside these two sheaths, thus running in parallel without touching each other directly. Part of the sheath contains and extra layer of piezoresitive fabric. When this part of the sheath is pressured or bent, the electrical resistance […]
Animating Textiles
May 12th 2015, 3 hour workshop at the RCA Information Experience Design department in London, UK This workshop is only open to students of the university. A three-hour introductory workshop to materials, tools and techniques for actuating textiles. This brief workshop will start with an introductory overview to electronic-textiles, explaining materials such as conductive threads […]
Soft Sensors for Soft Bodies II
May 11th 2015, 6 hour workshop at Parsons in Paris, France This workshop is only open to students of Parsons Paris. A six-hour introductory workshop to the materials, tools and techniques for building resistive sensors from textiles. Making your own sensors enables you to customize interactions to the specifics of your project. Sensors made from […]
