Constructing textile sensors and circuitry from available and affordable materials and tools. Implementing these in interaction scenarios to explore the qualities of textiles in human-computer interaction.
Participants will be introduced to a range of conductive fabrics, threads, yarns and other soft and squishy materials with interesting electrical properties. These materials, which have been sourced and selected because of their availability and price, will be used in series of handcraft techniques that include sewing, knitting and crochet. These techniques require very basic tools such as sewing and knitting needles, crochet hooks, scissors and irons.
