16-17 May 2009
V2_ Institute for the Unstable Media
Rotterdam, The Netherlands
We provide participants with: Hackable sound devices and programmable controllers, DIY fabric sensors, conductive fabrics and threads, lots of stretchy fabric, thread and sewing machines…
We would like participants to consider: How do sound and motion feedback to each other, how does wearable technology restrict and define certain forms of movement, what content can be conveyed through a sound performance, how do the aesthetical choices relate the message and how can you choreograph to create the overall perception as seen by the audience.
We want to avoid the question of weather wearable technology is useful or not. In the short time we have, we want to focus on creating functional prototypes, discussing motivations and concepts. How well are you conveying your message. We would like you to explore wearables outside the context of everyday wearability, positioning them as costumes and theatrical tools for expression.
You will be working in groups, conceiving, discussing and creating your wearable scenarios together. Please be prepared to share you own know how, but also challenge yourself and engage in new activities. It will be an intense two days and we are really looking fwd to meeting you.
