A 4-way pressure sensor with a central “button” that acts as a joystick. Constructed from conductive (silverized lycra), piezoresistive (Eeontex) fabrics and a metal bead. The metal bead acts as the common side of the 4-way switch and is covered in a layer of piezoresistive stretch fabric. Each of the directions is created by fusing a conductive fabric tab around the rim of the fabric that the button/bead rests in. Pressing the button/bead towards one of the 4 directions causes the electrical resistance between the contacts on either side of the piezoresistive fabric to decrease – one contact being the metal bead itself, the other being one of the conductive fabric tabs.
