Electronic Textile is a technique that uses metalized or carbon infused thread and fabric to create electronics. You can knit sensors and embroider speakers. In this workshop, you will be introduced how to crochet a touch sensor with conductive threads. The finished crochet sensor will be connected as one big crochet blanket that plays back sound as you touch.
As we sit down together and indulge into this craft, participants are also invited to discuss their idea about technology: who makes them? How we make them? Why we make them? What will be the future we imagine?
The workshop is planned as walk-in workshop, and we plan to do our version of “stitch and bitch” or rather “crochet raler (bitch in french)” If you are interested, please come by during the workshop hours and “raler” with us!
Date: March 8th Friday, sometime between 13:00- 17:00 walk in session (Please note that we will have some pause and will not be there for the whole 4 hours)
Location: TATE Exchange (New building of TATE modern 5th floor) London, UK
The workshop will be lead by Mika (unfortunately Hannah will not be there…)
We are planning impromptu performance by Dominique Baron-Bonajree on the 8th, which is the International Woman’s day, at TATE modern. She will be wearing movement sensing crochet costume made by KOBAKANT in her performance (https://www.kobakant.at/KOBA/crochet-resistance/). The exact location and timing of the performance is TBA soon.
Unfortunately there were some organization chaos and we will not be performing on the 8th. I hope there is a chance to showcase the Dominique’s performance with the crochet resistance costume in future.
Mika will be also presenting the projects of KOBAKANT on the March 9th 12:00- at the TATE exchange.
The workshop, the performance and the talk is organized as a part of “Beta Society With Digital Maker Collective”
