KOBA Winter School of Wickedfabrics

January 21-25 2019, Berlin/Germany

We have been running our KOBA E-Textile Tailorshop for one year now. During this time we’ve been refining our skills in some of the most basic techniques like making hard-soft connections and detachable parts. But we have also been confronted with learning bespoke tailoring skills in taking a customer’s ideas from concept to robust artifact.

Before closing shop at the end of January next year, we want to offer a workshop to pass on these skills to a group of interested people.

This week-long KOBA Winter School of Wickedfabrics will walk you through the process of tailoring one e-textile garment, from concept to design, to interaction design to planning circuitry, sensors, actuators and programming the behavior of the garment. Every day will be a mix of hands-on tutorials with time to apply these skills on your own. Throughout the course of the week, each participant will construct their own e-textile garment, including time for debugging, to make sure it really works:-)

The KOBA Winter School of Wickedfabrics will be a time and place for people who’ve put their foot in the door of the field of electronics-textiles-crafts-technology to develop skills in tailoring electronic textile garments from scratch to fitting.

Start: Monday January 21st 2019, 10:00
End: Friday January 25th 2019, 18:00
Price: 800 Euros* (includes course materials, lunch and snacks)
Capacity: 8 people

Rough Schedule

*KOBA is the one-year e-textile tailorshop project of KOBAKANT(Hannah Perner-Wilson and Mika Satomi). With this project our intention is to offer our skills in designing and making e-textile garments and artifacts to anybody who has a desire for such things. Giving people the chance to experience the reality of their wearable technology ideas. The project was funded for 6 months by WearSustain (https://wearsustain.eu/) and KOBAKANT plan to finance the other half of the year by running this KOBA Tailor School of Wickedfabrics. Part of the fees from the participants will contribute to the rent for the KOBA shop space.

Payments:
If selected, you will be required to transfer the school fee by November 30th 2018.

Cancellations:
If you cancel your position in the school before November 30th 2018 you will receive a full refund. If you cancel your position in the school after this date you will not get your money back.
If paying the full fee in one go is a problem for you, we can find other ways, just let us know.
