This workshop gives a basic overview of how to get analog output from fabric pressure and bend sensors into the computer.
An introduction into creating your own fabric sensor, hooking it up to an Arduino (analog to digital converter) and reading the input in Processing. The serial input can then be visualized using simple shape/size algorithms.
Duration: 2-3 hours
Participants: 15-20
Required skills: basic knowledge of electronics plus an interest in sewing

When and where in 2010 you will have your next event about basic overview of how to get analog output from fabric pressure and bend sensors into the computer. An introduction into creating your own fabric sensor, hooking it up to an arduino (analog to digital converter) and reading the input in Processing. The serial input can then be visualized using simple shape/size algorithms.
The next upcoming workshop is titled Handcrafting Textile Sensors from Scratch and will take place during the TEI conference at the MIT Media Lab on January 26th. This workshop will focus on crafting sensors and less on analog to digital conversion though:
