Studio HILO – Sara Diaz Rodriguez, Natalija Krasnoperova

Studio HILO is based in Berlin and developed a easy-to-build spinning machine: The HILO machine is a compact spinning machine which can be installed in any textile workshop. Professionals and enthusiasts alike can produce their personalized, local and on-demand yarn.

The HILO machine is controlled by the user-friendly HILO software. It allows users to translate digital patterns (such as an image) into different yarn properties – which results in customized yarn with unique tactile and aesthetic qualities.

The Studio HILO project extends beyond the machine and software and aims towards building an active community of users. By making the blueprints and source-code freely available online, we invite users and makers to build their own HILO machine, code with us and share their experiences and customizations with the HILO community.
